For Fast & Furious 5, Universal was looking for a special digital action to promote the movie.
SOLUTIONS
01_ We created a unique car game: the first car racing championship on Google Maps.
02_ Our goal was to create a parallel action to the one taking place in the movie, replicating the sensation of running in real city streets at full power. This game allows users to play in any road in the world with one of the Fast 5 cars. We also created 5 special race tracks in 5 spots where the movies take place.
03_ Using the Google Maps API and its directions, the user can select any point in the map, choose a starting and a final point, create a section in any road and just run. The game creates a line above the real road and allows to run with five different cars, each car with different features. The cars actually respond to a physics motor that allows to give each car different speed, friction, weight and acceleration features.
04_ The dymamics of the game is similar to the classic scalextric. Just speed up trying to avoid the car from getting off the road.
05_ The game has all the social features to make it go viral: the user can login via Facebook, post their best results, tweet their scores and share it with their friends.
RESULTS
01_ One week after the release of the movie, the game has become the most successful digital action in Spain in the entertainment business. More than 700.000 users, 30.000 registered users in the challenge, more than 20.000 tracks created and 120.000 complete tracks played.
